We focus on customers who need engineering-grade hardware, not consumer-grade prints. Our work spans four primary domains.
Custom payload attachments, mission-specific deployment systems, and mechanical-to-electrical integration for NDAA-compliant unmanned aerial platforms. Built around published OEM interface standards.
Public safety · Defense · IndustrialMission-specific equipment for police, fire, SAR, and emergency response teams. Designed for field reliability in environments where consumer hardware fails.
PD · FD · SAR · EMSConcept-to-prototype support for founders building physical products. Material selection, mechanical design, electronics integration, and small-batch production.
Pre-seed → Series ACustom fixtures, tooling, jigs, and replacement parts for Iowa manufacturers, utilities, and agricultural operators. Faster than a traditional machine shop.
Iowa & Cedar Rapids corridorHow we engage
Every project gets the same engineering rigor. The tiers reflect how complete your spec is when you start working with us.
Tier 01
You send a print-ready file. We print it in the right material, handle post-processing, and deliver a finished part. Fast turnaround, no ambiguity.
You bring the file — we make the partTier 02
You have a design that needs work. We consult on material selection, optimize for printability and field performance, run test iterations, and deliver a validated prototype.
You bring the design — we make it workTier 03
You have a concept. We handle mechanical design, material selection, multi-component assembly, mechatronics, and electronics integration. Discovery call required.
You bring the idea — we build the systemCapabilities
We don't just print in PLA. We match the material to the mechanical, thermal, and environmental demands of the application — and integrate it with the servos, sensors, and electronics that make it a system.
Materials are only half the system. Our work routinely combines additive manufacturing with servo control, sensor integration, and embedded electronics. When the deliverable is a payload, a fixture, or an integrated subsystem — not just a part — that's where we operate.
How it works
No bloated timelines. No mystery. Here's the path from first contact to a part — or a system — in your hands.
01
Send us your files, sketches, or concept through the contact form. Tell us what you're building and what it needs to survive.
02
We review your project, recommend a tier and material, and send a clear quote. Tier 03 and integration projects start with a discovery call.
03
We design, print, integrate, and test. You get progress updates and photos. If something needs to change, we catch it early.
04
Finished prototype or system, delivered with material specs, test notes, and recommendations for the next iteration or production run.
About
Miniature Systems is a hardware prototyping studio in Coralville, Iowa, founded by Will Godfrey — an engineer and entrepreneur with a background in enterprise technology architecture and a deep focus on building things that work in the field.
Before Miniature Systems, Will spent nine years at McKinsey & Company as a Digital Practice Expert, leading front-office technology architecture for Fortune 500 clients. He built the systems other people made decks about.
That same systems thinking now drives the studio's approach to physical hardware. Every project is evaluated not just for printability, but for how the part fits into a larger system — mechanical loads, thermal environment, electrical integration, assembly constraints, and the path from prototype to production.
We serve UAS payload developers, public safety hardware programs, hardware startups, and Iowa-based industrial customers — anyone who needs engineering-grade prototyping with the speed of a modern shop and the rigor of an enterprise architect.
Get in touch
Tell us what you're building. Whether you have production-ready CAD files, an OEM interface document, or a concept on a napkin — we'll figure out the right path together.
For UAS payload integration, public safety hardware, and Tier 03 system development, expect a follow-up call to scope the work properly.
